What is Gains In Motion?
A training log and coaching platform that syncs with Garmin, COROS, Apple Health, or Google Health, and adds AI-generated insights, coach-prescribed workouts, and goal-based training plans on top of your activity data.
How do I get an account?
Create an account from the login page — a fitness mentor reviews new sign-ups before you can get started, so there may be a short wait after you sign up.
Do I need to manually sync my activities?
No. Garmin and COROS sync automatically once connected — checked periodically in the background. Apple Health and Google Health sync automatically too, once you've connected them the first time from Settings. If you already have Strava connected, that keeps syncing immediately as before — new Strava connections just aren't available right now (see below).
How do I import an activity without connecting Strava?
Export a GPX or TCX file from your watch platform — on Garmin Connect, open the activity and use Export (TCX gives the richest result, with real lap splits); on Strava, use the activity's “Export GPX” option. Then open Import (from the bottom nav bar, or the header on desktop) and upload the file — a coach can also do this on an athlete's behalf. One catch: Strava only includes full pace and heart-rate data in your own activity's export — downloading someone else's file from Strava, even one you follow, strips that data, so each person needs to export and upload their own.
Can I connect Strava?
New Strava connections aren't available right now — Strava's API access for GIM is capped at 10 athletes, and that cap is already in use. Garmin, COROS, Apple Health, and Google Health cover the same ground in the meantime. If you already have Strava connected, nothing changes: it keeps syncing, and GIM only ever used your activities' summary and, with your consent, stream data — pace, heart rate, elevation, and similar. GIM never posts to Strava on your behalf or touches anything outside your training data.
I have an Apple Watch, Wear OS/Galaxy watch, or a brand GIM doesn't directly support (Amazfit, etc.) — can I still use GIM?
Yes. Connect Apple Health or Google Health (via Health Connect) from Settings and GIM reads whatever workouts and recovery data (resting heart rate, HRV, VO2max, sleep) your watch's own app already writes there — this covers most brands, including ones GIM has no direct integration with, as long as that brand's app syncs to Apple Health or Google Health itself (most do). Some watch-specific metrics, like a brand's own proprietary stress or readiness score, don't have a matching Apple Health/Health Connect data type and won't come through.
Can I disconnect Strava or COROS?
Yes, any time, from Settings. Disconnecting Strava stops future syncs and permanently deletes your synced Strava activity history within 7 days. Disconnecting COROS stops future syncs too, but doesn't delete what's already synced — email support if you'd like that removed as well. To stop Apple Health or Google Health syncing, revoke the permission from your phone's own Settings app instead.
How is the Garmin connection different from Strava or COROS?
Garmin's official developer program isn't currently approving new integrations, so GIM offers a separate way to connect Garmin directly: an open-source bridge (built on the community garth library) that uses your real Garmin email and password to set up access. Your password itself is never stored by GIM — only the resulting access token is, and it's used the same way any other source's token is: to pull your activities and recovery data, nothing else. Activities are deduped against Strava if you're also connected there.
What AI does GIM use, and what does it see?
GIM uses Claude (Anthropic) to generate coaching commentary — per-activity summaries, weekly/monthly recaps, and full training plans. Claude sees the structured training data needed to do that (paces, distances, recent history) — never your login credentials or Strava tokens.
Does GIM track more than just my workouts?
Yes. GIM can sync resting heart rate, HRV, VO2max, and sleep from Apple Health, Google Health, or COROS, and lets you self-report weekly wellness (energy, soreness, sleep quality), long-run fueling/hydration, and optional body composition or lab check-ins. It's all optional — Gimo can help you spot patterns across it, but it never diagnoses a condition or replaces medical advice.
Who can see my recovery and health data?
Recovery data (resting HR, HRV, sleep, wellness check-ins, fueling logs) is visible to you and your coach, same as your training data. Body composition and any lab-flag check-ins are visible only to you — not even your coach or GIM's admin can see the raw numbers. If something's worth a second opinion, GIM raises a general flag your coach can see without sharing the specifics.
What happens when GIM flags something?
If a pattern looks worth a second opinion — recurring soreness, low protein intake, a lab result you flagged as out of range — GIM raises it and names the right kind of professional to see: a physiotherapist, a nutritionist, or a doctor. It never diagnoses or prescribes treatment. And once the same check-ins show it's cleared up, GIM lets you know that too.
What is Gimo?
Gimo is GIM's built-in AI chat assistant, available from the chat icon on every page. Ask it about your workouts, training plan, or recent performance and it answers using your own real data — the same kind of information used to generate your recaps and plans. Gimo can't edit your plan, log a workout, or change any settings, and it isn't a medical professional — for those, use the app directly or talk to your coach or doctor. Your conversation history is stored so it persists across visits — see Privacy & Security for who can see it.
What's the difference between a Mentor and an Athlete account?
A Mentor (coach) can view their athletes' training, leave notes, prescribe workouts, and build AI training plans for them. An Athlete sees their own training and, if their coach has set one up, a prescribed plan. A coach can also enroll themselves as their own athlete for self-coaching.
How do push notifications work? Can I turn them off?
GIM can notify you about things like a new workout, a training plan update, or a daily workout reminder. You control this per device — notification permission is opt-in, and you can revoke it any time in your browser or phone settings.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, from Settings. This is a full deletion: any connected Strava or COROS authorization is revoked, and your account and associated training data are removed.
